Why 1,000 vs 1,024?

Computers count in binary, so a "true" GB is 2³⁰ = 1,073,741,824 bytes (1,024 MB). Storage manufacturers use the decimal 1,000 MB = 1 GB, which is why a "1 TB" drive shows as ~931 GB in your operating system — no storage is missing, it's just two definitions of the same word.
