How to Calculate Your GPA (Weighted & Unweighted)
To calculate GPA (grade point average), convert each grade to points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0), multiply by the course's credit hours, add them up, and divide by total credits. Here's the method for weighted and unweighted GPA, with a free GPA calculator.
Unweighted GPA (the 4.0 scale)
Assign points per grade, weight by credit hours, and average. Example: an A (4.0) in a 3-credit class and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit class = (4.0×3 + 3.0×4) ÷ 7 = 3.43 GPA. The GPA Calculator adds every course automatically.
Weighted GPA
Weighted GPA rewards harder classes: AP/IB/honors courses add points, so an A in AP can count as 5.0 instead of 4.0. That's why weighted GPAs can exceed 4.0. Enter each class with its level to reflect course difficulty.
Standard grade-to-point scale
- A = 4.0, A− = 3.7
- B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7
- C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0
- D = 1.0, F = 0
